Biography

Samantha Morton was born on May 13th 1977 and is an Oscar Nominated English actress made famous for her roles in hit movies such as ‘Minority Report’ and the British TV series ‘Band of Gold’.

Samantha Morton was born in Nottingham, England and attended West Bridgford Comprehensive School. Her love of acting shone through at a very young age and at just 13 years old Samantha was appearing in hit UK TV shows such as ‘Cracker’ and from there she made her way into several period drama’s including the adaption of ‘Jane Eyre’

Samantha had a starring role in a cult TV series called ‘Band of Gold’ which aired in 1995. She played prostitute Tracy Richards in the shocking and controversial show which focused on the lives of a group of friends as they struggled to earn a living.

Morton’s first feature film was ‘Under the skin’ in 1997 and from there she starred in Woody Allen’s ‘Sweet and Lowdown’ in 1999for which she received an academy award nomination.
In 2002 Samantha won the British Independent Film Award for Best Actress for her performance in the film Morvern Callar; this was quickly followed by a nomination for an Academy Award for Best Actress for ‘In America’ in 2003.
She was also praised by fans and critics alike for her brilliant performance alongside Tom Cruise in the 2002 hit movie ‘Minority Report’

In 2006 Samantha returned to her British TV roots to take on the extremely controversial role of the ‘Moors Murderer’ Myra Hindley. She was criticised by the families of some of the victims for taking on her role but defended her decision by stating that “It is my duty as a performer to raise issues we’re afraid to look at”.

Samantha Morton is engaged to filmmaker Harry Holm, son of actor Ian Holm and has a daughter Esme from a previous relationship with fellow actor Charlie Creed Miles.
